About the Author
Author Patti Polk is recognized as one of the top agate collectors in the world (as noted in the highly respected reference book Agates III by Johann Zenz). She has been collecting, cutting and polishing rocks for jewelry and display for more than 20 years. She has been published in Rock & Gem magazine and numerous other periodicals, and speaks at rock and mineral club programs and frequently serves as a trail guide for visitors to Arizona. Patti is a skilled lapidary artist, which includes the cutting and polishing of the stones into display specimens or cabochons for jewelry making.

This is a pearl of a book, and an appreciated expansion to my collection.  As of now I have several books on distinguishing diamonds and minerals and another ten or so on where to discover them, so what is unique about     this book?

As a matter of first importance I saw the photos, wonderful pictures, yet more vitally pictures which I could identify with. In my different books I get a learned portrayal, however for the most part the photos don’t look much like the stones I find or see at shows.

Patti has picked the stones to photo so well that they all resemble the stones and minerals I have, or have seen. I found them down to earth and clear.

On the off chance that I had never been on a field trip I would now comprehend what’s in store: the photo of a punctured tire in a remote range is an opportune cautioning that there are dangers in our diversion. Be that as it may, it was the 230 pages of cases of uncut materials, cleaned things and finished jewelry which truly got the attention.

The characterization and outline of the different classes of agate is amazingly done just like alternate gatherings and minerals. Valiantly Patti has included the “esteem” of every thing, recorded by pound, ounce or gram. This is an exceptionally profitable asset, despite the fact that it might leave date rapidly relying upon the estimation of the dollar and fame and accessibility of every thing.

It has caused me to reconsider what rocks and minerals I have now, and to take a look at the things which I have incompletely disposed of as my “yard” rocks. Patti Polk’s enthusiasm for our interest soars through this book and we should be appreciative that she has filled a hole in the writing accessible to rockhounds.

Designed for beginners and experienced collectors alike, these field guides make identification of individual specimens sure, simple and straightforward. Each entry has a full color illustration as well as color-coded bands that provide at-a-glance facts for quick reference. Easy to use and beautiful to look at, this series is an invaluable resource for every collector.

This is the best basic book I’ve ever observed about the subject. It’s brimming with remarkable pictures that show pretty much everything most collector’s might need to know. It begins with an amazing and succinct segment on general jewel legend, diamond properties, and pearl taking care of.
At that point it has the best shading key to diamonds that I’ve seen. This key makes it simple to discover the data about a given gemstone without utilizing the list.

On the off chance that one prefers, there is a decent index as well. After the Color Key, there are pages about particular stones with a depiction, where they are found and comments.

All standard gem properties are shown, with brilliant pictures to show the shading, shape, cleavage, utilizes, and so on. With everything taken into account, this is the prologue to gemstones to judge others by. It’s likewise very helpful for more progressed “rockhounds” as a kind of perspective and field direct. The coupling is entirely tough and ought to allow a great deal of travel. I wish this book had been accessible many years ago. It would have been appreciated even then.

Cool rock projects

Rock projects.

People love rocks.  Whether they are pretty rocks like crystals and gem stones, or whether they are plain old garden variety rocks like large basalt pieces or possibly even basalt that has been crushed into gravel.

Stone has been a landscaper’s best friend on many occasions.  Used to fill wet areas that need a drain field, to other areas that just need to be filled in or made a little more attractive.  There are varieties of red rock and river rock, even white marble chunks for use in lawn and  garden decorating.  These types of rock are an excellent choice for pond scaping and decorating fountain areas.
rock-project

Here a certain type and variety of sizes of common rock were used to make a sentimental picture of people on a ledge.  The closeness shared draws emotion in from every angle.  The carefully placed trail of rocks under neath the ledge of wood displays even more variety and interest in both color, shape and size.

Rocks or stones of all kinds add a grounding influence and good energy to the world around them.  No matter how they are used, they each enhance their direct area to raise the vibration nearby.

Be the Light…

Be the Light…

Shine brightly today!

light

Be the light you would like to see in others…

Shine – shine – shine…

Be all that you can be – right now.
Think about good things,
do good things,
and have a joyful, happy life –
Full of light!

Let yesterday’s troubles fade away,
and let them stay in your past,
as you realize what a wonderful life you have
right now, TODAY.  Be grateful for everything you have, and even the things that don’t seem to be a blessing.  Later in life, you may change your mind and realize how much you learned from some of those challenges.  Lessons learned can save you so much time and effort in the future.  You’ve probably heard it said more than once -Yes, I’ve all ready learned that one… I don’t need to go through that again…

And then you can move on.  Knowing that you have gained some wisdom and knowledge and you are a little smarter than you were before.

Life is about lessons.  Life is about learning, and loving, and caring.  Life is about sharing and shining as bright as you can.

Keep shining my friends… Do what you like to do.  Be who you want to be.  Love as many people as you can, and just let the rest of the world be who and what they want to be also.

Don’t worry about what others do or say, because you are so busy living your own life that you know there is plenty of room for everyone else to be themselves.  You may not want to live really close to people that don’t share your love for life and humanity though…

It’s real that some people don’t agree and sometimes there are those who don’t appreciate their lives at all.  BUT it’s up to you to just keep on shining anyway!

I Love your light.

Be Blessed…

Sometimes you have to consciously STOP what you are thinking –

Blessed...

and START thinking about something else.

What does that mean exactly?

It is so easy to think about something that has happened to us.  Maybe someone said something offensive, or accidently  slighted us in some way.

Maybe they were just voicing their opinion a little too loudly for our taste, or maybe we just totally dis – agree with what they had to say.  Not everyone is on an equal level of consciousness, you know.

There are those who have never even heard of consciousness, let alone practice it in any way.

So here we are repeating over and over – something we don’t like.  Negative feelings overpowering all of the other feelings, leaving us sad, and angry.  Wronged somehow, and just plain stressed out.

If we continue to stay in that negative, unloving state, however, we will soon forget about all of our blessings because we will become consumed by whatever it is that we are all stressed out about.

Whatever you think about expands.

Pretty soon you could have a full blown, made up story about this or that negative situation, and left unresolved, this creative story could cause a headache, or stomach problems like indigestion or nausea.

How many times have you “imagined” a situation that never actually happened?

We are very creative thinkers.

Imagination can get carried away though, and that is why we have to harness our thoughts and bring them back to remembering positive things like how Blessed We Are!

Try writing a list of five blessings right now.  You may have to start with the clothes you are wearing.

And maybe a cup of coffee?

Or a bottle of water?

Good energy?

Do you have shoes?  Some people don’t, so I count my shoes a blessing.

When you start listing your blessings, you bring yourself into a  positive state of thinking.  Pretty soon everything looks a little brighter, and your list of five can turn into a list of  twenty five within just a few minutes.  The more you think, or dwell on blessings, the more blessings you find to think about.

This, like everything else, may take a little practice, but it is well worth the benefits gained, to practice this everyday until it becomes second nature.  Wouldn’t you really rather feel “Blessed” than “Stressed” ?
